PSE&G Power Play Kids
The Trenton Devils and PSE&G honor local area youth organizations for their positive contributions to the community through the PSEG Power Play Kids. Through this program, PSE&G provides tickets to worthy youth groups for selected home games. The program provides an opportunity to reward children for something positive that they have contributed to the community. Eligible groups include Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCA's, charitable organizations, and volunteer groups.
Groups that have been part of the program include:
Hospital Visits
Scorch and the Trenton Devils visit local hospitals around Mercer County and surrounding counties each season. Hospitals visited in the past include: St. Francis Medical Center (Trenton, NJ), Capital Health Systems Fuld Campus (Trenton, NJ), and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (Hamilton, NJ). Players and Scorch give out autographs, pose for photographs, visit with the children and adults, and distribute gifts during their visits.
EDUCATION
P.L.A.Y. Program
The Trenton Devils and NJEA are proud to offer the "P.L.A.Y." Program (Promoting Learning Among Youth) to elementary schools in Mercer County and the surrounding areas. The Devils "PLAY" Program, which is comprised of three separate programs, is designed to motivate the students and create a fun and friendly relationship with Devils players while promoting an exciting and creative learning atmosphere for students.
The Hat Trick for Reading program is designed to help stimulate student's reading interests. Students are challenged to read three teacher-approved books or more and write a brief summary on each over the span of four weeks. At the fourth week, a Trenton Devils player will visit the class that read the most books as well as hand out special rewards. All students who participate in the program will be rewarded with a free ticket to a designated Hat Trick for Reading award night.
The Gear Up for Safety program is designed to teach students the importance of wearing protective gear when participating in sporting activities. A Trenton Devils player shows the students the different types of gear and explains the importance of the protective gear used when playing hockey. One child is picked from the audience to help with the presentation. For participating, each student gets the chance to earn a free ticket to a designated Gear Up for Safety award night.
The Face-Off for Fitness program is designed to help students understand the importance of healthy eating and exercise habits. A Trenton Devils player along with the Trenton Devils Athletic Trainer explain the healthy foods they eat as well as exercises and stretches they do to stay fit. Students are picked from the audience to help with the presentation. For participating, each student gets the chance to earn a free ticket to a designated Face-Off for Fitness award night.
Read Across America
Each March, the Trenton Devils and Scorch join schools across American in celebrating Read Across America week. Trenton Devils Front Office staff and Scorch visit schools around the surrounding counties to help promote literacy and education by reading to students.
